Welcome to the Council for the Built Environment (CBE)

The Council for the Built Environment (CBE) was established as a statutory body by Parliament (Act 43 of 2000) to provide leadership to, and ensure good governance of the professions, while serving as a two-way channel for coordinated input, into the restructuring and development process, between the professions and Government.

  Identification of work
Purpose of identification of work policy document and template The purpose of this policy document and template is to give effect to section 20 of the Council for the built Environment professions Act (Act 43 of 2000). In particular, this policy document and template is intended to achieve the following:

The policy document
  • To provide a coordinated CBE policy document for the demarcation of functions, professions and professional categories of registration to effect the principles of built environment professions regulations.
  • To provide a policy for utilizing competencies as a single source of defining minimum entry standards according to registration of qualifications and accreditation of programmes set through South Africa Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and Council for Higher Education (CHE) .
  • to incorporate CBE 's monitoring and evaluation policy
  • managing the boundaries around the whole family of BE professions and their mode of interaction to deliver an efficient system.
The template
  • The template should address the issues in the policy document
  • To assist professional council in drafting their identification of work framework which will be applicable to all councils
